IMMIGRATION HISTORY OF CANADA

I present a UI design project for a touchscreen app tailored for museums, focusing on Canada's immigration history. This interactive experience spans four screens: a welcoming page, a comprehensive video timeline of migration over 15,000 years, an exploration of immigrants enriching Canadian arts and culture, and a retrospective view through films depicting evolving attitudes towards immigration before 1960.

Imagery

In crafting the visual elements for this case study, I delved into the rich textures of scrapbooks, vintage artifacts, and antique stamps to weave a tapestry of imagery that evokes a deep sense of history and nostalgia. Each piece is meticulously chosen and designed to resonate with the theme of immigration, reflecting the layered and multifaceted stories of those who have journeyed to Canada. This imagery not only enriches the narrative but also serves as a bridge connecting past and present.

Videography

Vintage

I conducted a thorough investigation to locate sources of free vintage footage that pertains to immigration in America. It was found that the Internet Archive possesses the largest and most comprehensive collection of movies and footage filmed prior to 1960. You can quickly become engrossed in this type of information.

Perspective

I would like to add an intriguing perspective to the topic of immigration, considering the initial footage that sheds light on how immigration was perceived. It is widely recognized as a catalyst for economic growth, but it also brings with it the challenge of cultural stereotypes.
